Mindful Movement

Movement as Medicine

Movement is medicine for the body and mind. In this embodiment dance practice, we learn to stay awake to and aware of the movement of our bodies, minds and hearts, on and off the dance floor. Meeting ourselves with an open hearted curiosity, we allow the body to move without judgement. We become a witness to our own great dance in life.

In welcoming ourselves onto the dance floor we offer the physical body a workout. We increase blood supply to the heart and oxygen to the lungs, we help regulate our blood sugar levels. We activate different muscle groups, helping the body to stay fit and healthy. Increasing physical exercise is preventative medicine for many chronic illnesses, including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, low mood and anxiety. Studies show that when we exercise, the body’s natural endorphines are released. This helps us to stay energized and happy.

Each session will involve a guided warm up, open movement through dance, and a guided mindfulness meditation.
